It was from the conference that LEFT (Lesbians Exploring Faith Together) hosted in 2015 that the idea emerged to draw together a reflection on themes of spirituality, sexuality and social change. A key reflection was of the question Jesus asked Simon at the dinner he laid on in his honour: 'Simon, do you see this woman?' The book is thus about experience and reality. It combines narratives with reflections, stories and occasionally poetry. The reflections are intended to be suggestive and exploratory, raising themes and ideas in an oblique way in order to open up the various meanings and connections that the reader might make between the reflection and their own experience. The contributors' stories fall mainly into two sections - Resistance (chapter 3) and Reclaiming Spirit (chapter 4). The aim is to show how structures of thought and imagination provide invisible cages and how they may be dismantled.
