Eric Stoddart begins with an autobiographical account of how he encountered Practical Theology, and moves on to a mored detailed consideration of how Practical Theology is vital for critical discipleship. He argues that the field needs to be made more accessible for lay people, and so examines the concept of professionalization and the ways its important values can be retained without making Practical Theology exclusive. He argues that Practical Theology needs to be much more radical if it is to serve in a disturbing world, with its oppression of marginalised people. The debate needs to be shaken up, so that the vision of what Practical Theology is and can be is extended.
